A tough, cold-tolerant accent plant for desert gardens
and a favorite of desert hummingbirds

Plant type: Perennial/Shrub Growth habit: grass-like bushy mound of narrow, spine-tipped leaves topped by tall flower stalks
Family: Century Plant (Agavaceae)
Plant size: 24" - 48" high Seasonality: evergreen

Flower color: light salmon to coral red with yellow to orange interior Growth rate: slow
Flower size: 1/2" wide, 1 1/4" long Hardiness: -20 degrees F.
Bloom period(s): Spring through Rainy Season Light needs: full sun
Habitat: rocky slopes, semi-desert foothills, grasslands, dry woodlands Soil type: well drained
Moisture needs: low - may need some water in driest areas and during drought
Distribution:

native to central and southern Texas, northeastern Mexico

Growing tips: Removing spent flowers before pods form will prolong bloom, but be careful not to get stabbed by the leaves! In larger landscapes, plant in threes for more dramatic effect.
