Fiesta de las Aves

The Black-throated Gray Warbler is one of many migratory birds celebrated during Fiesta de las Aves
International Migration Celebration

May 10-16, 2009

General Information | 2008 Schedule of Activities

Join us for the 8th annual Fiesta de las Aves International Migration Celebration!

Fiesta de las Aves ("Festival of the Birds") features a variety of activities for birders and other wildlife enthusiasts. The festival is a traveling affair, with activities taking place at a series of outstanding birding locations in Cochise and Santa Cruz counties, including the Huachuca and Chiricahua Mountains, San Pedro River, and Patagonia, and across the border in northern Sonora. This festival format encourages broader participation from visitors, residents, volunteers, businesses, and organizations, reduces the cost of most field trips, and spreads the economic benefits of birding tourism to more communities. The festival follows the nationwide celebration of the 16th annual International Migratory Bird Day, May 9, 2009.

The Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory is a non-profit educational organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS codes. Our science and education programs on behalf of the birds and other wildlife of southeastern Arizona are made possible in large part by our members and donors. Your support is appreciated.

The purpose of Fiesta de las Aves is to promote conservation of the birds, other wildlife, and habitats of southeastern Arizona and northwestern Mexico through education, advocacy, and development of responsible, sustainable nature-based tourism. Proceeds from the festival benefit SABO's conservation and education programs. Support for the festival comes from SABO's members and donors and members of the local business, conservation, and tourism communities. We also appreciate the cooperation of Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Arizona State Parks, and Department of the Army/Fort Huachuca for access to public lands.

For those who can't make it to the festival, the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory offers activities throughout the year, including walks, workshops, tours, and other events. SABO also participates in the Southwest Wings Birding & Nature Festival in August and the Wing Over Willcox Sandhill Crane Celebration in January.
