The Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory, funded in part by a grant from the North American Fund for Environmental Cooperation and in partnership with state and local agencies, other non-governmental organizations, and private businesses and landowners, is working to develop environmentally and culturally appropriate nature-based tourism in Sonora and northwestern Mexico. This ongoing project will include on-line and printed visitor information, guided tours and workshops, school programs and field trips in rural communities, and seminars for community leaders, businesses, and prospective tourist guides. To encourage visitors to explore beyond the border, we begin this guide with a glimpse of the diversity of bird life that this region has to offer:
Future features will include additional photo albums, travel tips, birding locations, regional and local maps, trip reports, and contact info for organizations and businesses. SABO's Guide to Birding in Northwestern Mexico is a service to the birding community sponsored by SABO's members and donors.
